Looking for opinions on an offerRating: (votes: 1) I was offered a triage nurse position making more than I currently do now, I have no triage nurse experience which they are aware of and have offered me training. It's ideal for my situation and the benefits are solid, short commute(I have a long commute) , I have chronic back pain and this is all phone triage. Blah blah etc. I'm strongly considering this position however I do not want to get into situation where I'm in over my head. Is making this move a crazy plan? I'd love to hear from triage nurses who understand what the transition is like. The organization is a not for profit community group. Really don't know how phone triage would be over your head. If you have good assessment skills and intuition and good nurse patient communication skills I would think that with training you'll be fine. I am sure they will give you all sorts of rules you must follow and that part will probably make you feel like a monkey somewhat. You can have your references at hand at all times while you are on the phone... Comment:
I worked with a nurse who did phone advice work, not triage, and she told me that frequently she left from her job with a headache so bad she had to lie down for hours and got no relief. On more than one occasion, she had to leave work early, and this was for just a phone advice job, not actual triage. If you feel up to mental strain, I don't see why it would not be a good move.
