References?

I have been working as an RN on a neuroscience unit for 14 months and looking for a new job now. I have tons of references from clinical instructors from nursing school but is that still appropriate to use? I haven't had any interaction with these instructors since I graduated from nursing school. I cannot count on my supervisor to be a reference, but can find some coworkers if I need to.
As a manger I would be looking for someone from your job be it your NM or a charge nurse or unit educator.
Experienced nurses are always asked for references that can provide insight into your work experience so your school instructors would not be appropriate.
