Nicotine pre-employment test for non-smoker

Hi everyone,

First I want to be clear that I am not a smoker. The hospital that wants to hire me requires a nicotine test as they do not hire smokers. It is a urine test. I have been exposed to secondhand smoke 2 days ago, including in the car while the person was smoking. I am concerned that I'll fail the urine test, but I am truly not a smoker! What should I do? Please help!

I doubt whether this will affect your results. If so, just ask them to repeat it. As I understand it, the reason that employers now test urine rather than other more superficial tests is because it is not sensitive to 'incidental' exposure. Congrats on your new job! At least you won't have to deal with co-workers mooching off for smoke breaks on a regular basis.
