Medical Coding Certification?

I have been thinking about getting certified in medical coding but isn't there supposed to be some type of transition about to take place in this field. Would it be better to wait until after everything changes or start now and transition along as things come about? Also where would a good place to start working after I get certified since most places want a year worth of coding experience? Any advice and experience is helpful. Thanks!
