Got fired in Jan... Haven't been able to find another job.

Until recently, I worked in NJ at one of the worst nursing homes in the state. I only accepted this job because the hospital I worked at and other hospital systems would not hire me because I did not have a BSN. I worked for this nursing home for roughly a year before I was terminated. I was terminated because I a patient stated that they had not used the bathroom for about 5-6 hours and I didn't take proper action. I assessed the patient, noted no distention and no pain upon palpation. It was also 2230 and the 2300 shift was coming on. Instead of calling the doctor, I let third shift know about the situation and told them to monitor it. Long story short, they didn't and it fell back on me since I discovered the problem. When I got fired, I had a year of experience This was my first write up since post orientation (which was 10 days as a NG).

As a NG, I had to adjust working in a nursing home that was never adequately supplied or staffed and continuous, changing management as well as archaic methods of doing things.

Since being fired, I have applied to numerous hospitals, to no avail. I've also had an interview at a 5 star nursing home and a rehab, but those fell through as well. I am NOT trying to ever work in a nursing home setting again if I can help it. I'm posting this thread because I need some advice/understanding on how to handle this situation. I finish my BSN this summer and I'm also taking dysrhythmia and ACLS this summer on my own dime as well.

I'm not a manager, but from reading on AN, I'd suggest looking for jobs som e distance away if possible. Apparently, "blacklisting" happens and managers talk.If asked why you were fired, tell them you made a mistake that you have learned from.What ended up happening with the pt?
Yeah, I've heard about the blacklisting thing too, which I think is BS. And the patient was catheterized.

It may have nothing to do with the incident at the NH. Around here, I can't even get past some of the websites to apply because they as you at the start if you have the BSN. If you answer "no" it bumps you out as not qualified. The only other thing is, when you had the other interviews did they question what happened at the other job? If so, how did you address it?
I agree that it could just be you are in a saturated job market. I have read other posts from frustrated job seekers in NY/NJ. Relocating may be a good idea.

When asked about it in interviews, I tell them basically what I said in the OP. Anonymurse, I tried to PM you but it said you're storage space is full and you must delete some messages.
I would suggest applying to farther away like 20miles or more. Also you wouldn't have to worry about blacklisting.
