Changing careers need adviceRating: (votes: 0) First I am new here but I have a lot of questions. Let me give you some quick background. I have a B. S. in Business Administration. I am currently working retail and am not very happy with it. I am considering a career change into nursing. It is something I have thought about a lot and has always interested me. I went the other direction for reasons that done matter here. Now I am relooking at nursing. So here are the questions. First, as I am looking at education I do also have an associates in science. I am thinking of getting an associates in nursing so I can get licensed as a RN and continue education from there. I am thinking ultimately I would like to be a CNRA or something in pediatrics. So do you think that it would be better to get a ADN or a certificate to start? Which would better serve me to get where I want to go? Second, which are better, online or in seat classes? Realizing I have a family and would have to work while in school I was thinking online. Third, looking at where I want to go with this career what avenues of employment should I be looking at? Hospital or another? 1. You will need a BSN degree and a minimum of a couple of years of critical care (a.k.a. ICU) experience to be accepted into a CRNA program.2. No pre-licensure nursing program is conducted entirely online due to the clinical practicum component that is mandated by all state boards of nursing. At the most, there are hybrid nursing programs that blend online nursing courses with clinical rotations that you must attend in-person several times a week. Comment: I did figure that there would be a clinical component. Would it be better to get an Lpn and start working and use tuition assistance to progress forward? Would anything from my current degree help in any way?Comment: Quote from rmihm0305I did figure that there would be a clinical component. Post if the difficulty is I will still have to work full time while going to school. Hard but not impossible. Ideally I would like to accelerate and not take 4 full years but that my not be possible. That was why I was wondering if either my associates or Bachelors would count towards anything. If it helps I Minored in pych.Comment: You can do a second degree accelerated BSN program if you already have a bachelors. I did mine at NYU. It was 15 months, plus one semester of pre reqs.
