Cedar Sinai Medical Center Job

Hi guys,

I just need a piece of advice, still now not so sure if I will accept the job offer at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. I'm an RN in AZ, I don't know much about downtown LA, I went there last year for a visit, and seen the hospital. I don't know if I will accept the job because until now I can't find a place to live. Apartments are pricey, I checked at west side rentals, managed to find apartment close to the hospital but it's easily taken, landlords want me to come and see the apartment, unfortunately I can't fly ASAP because I still have a work here.

Do you have any suggestions where to live that is close to the hospital and have safe neighborhood? Is the commute reasonable like buses and mEtro because I'm not good in driving?

About the hospital, is the hospital been nurse friendly? Benefits wise, are they reasonable enough.

Do staff put on call all the time? I hope you guys find some time to help, I very much appreciated it.

Thanks,

Absolutely LOVED working at CSMC. Everyone is on edge but amazing of course lol... As far as area, CSMC isn't in downtown la it's closer to bev hills so look for somethin near west la/Santa Monica... KMK management is an amazing company I rented for five years... Try Santa monica&barrington ave ) it's pricey, about 13 but sooooo worth it

I am a student nurse so I cannot speak to the overall attitude toward nurses at CSMC but they have always been very supportive of students every time we are in the hospital and are great at making us feel welcome.Cedars Sinai is not in downtown, its at the border between Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. If you want to be very close to work, neighborhoods/cities nearby would be pico-robertson, mid-city, west hollywood, and beverly hills. Unfortunately, LA is a very expensive place to live so the prices may not be better in these areas than they are downtown. The further east and south you go the less expensive rentals are (but you will also be further away from work). That being said, LA has an extensive transportation network. I also hate driving. I live in hollywood and have taken public transportation, biked, and walked to most of my clinical sites (including CSMC) without incident. If you go to metro.net you can look up bus routes from potential apartments to cedars sinai. Additionally, almost everyone in LA drives. This means that apartments almost always provide at least one parking spot, and there are several large parking structures in the CSMC complex to park in. Traffic is usually not very bad unless you are on the freeway during rush-hour. So if you are interested in driving to work, there are definitely a lot of living options throughout the city.As for the apartment, I've had previously out-of-state friends have luck with calling westside rentals and explaining the situation. I've never asked for details, but it is my understanding that the company is willing to act as a broker in finding you apartments even if you are unable to visit in person. Additionally, you can look up the LA times crime project if you are interested in learning about the crime statistics of an area and information about schools. I previously lived a mile from CSMC and the area was very safe, but expensive.

Hello. I am an LVN living in Downtown Los Angeles. I would kill to work at Cedar. They are known for their innovations/research and is a very respected hospital throughout Southern California. I think it's also a teaching hospital. The nurses that work there are pretty satisfied. Also, once you gain experience working at Cedar, you are opening yourself up for even greater opportunities. I'm not sure what specialty field you are trying to get into, but this is a GREAT place to start. Check out this article: 30 Most Nurse-Friendly Hospitals in the United StatesAs far as living areas, Koreatown or Westlake is the most affordable within 10 miles of Cedar.... I use padmapper.com or rent.com or trulia.com

I worked @ CSMC MICU/RICU, I suggest living in Glendale or Silver Lake. Great place to work

I worked there for 2 years and it was horrible. It pays well but you will be worked to death because of their poor staffing practices. And a hefty chunk of your paycheck will go toward rent and parking. Don't be stupid.....no one takes public transportation here. EVERYONE drives. It's the reality. Don't let anyone tell you different. Also, Cedars is FAR from downtown. You will HAVE to drive, you'll see what I mean. "Not being good at driving" won't fly here. Period. Average rent for the area around Cedars for a 1 bedroom runs about $1500/mo if you're lucky. That's just the rent; add on utilities and parking and insurance and you can call it $2000 +. Try the Palms/Mar Vista area for apartments.....it's west side, and even though the prices are high it's halfway decent and safe. Committing to living in L.A. right now is a serious commitment. Consider it carefully. It's one of the most hectic, insanely traffic-jammed, expensive places in the country to live. It is very difficult if you don't have friends or don't drive well.
