New assistant not working out what to do?

Hi, all. No, I didn't die (cue the wailing and gnashing of teeth, lol), just taking a hiatus and getting used to my new job.

Shortly after I hired in, the office began searching for a new administrative assistant, as the workload in the office had doubled. We recieved over a hundred resumes, and the OM finally selected one to interview, and then hired her.

This has been a disaster. First, I know there's a learning curve, because Lord knows I had mine, still do. But unbeknownst to me, this chick was hired to be MY assistant! Had I known that, I'd have asked to be a bit more involved in the process.

At first, it was teeny things, like, bringing a chart back, standing in my office door and announcing, "You've got one!", and waiting for me to pop up and dash to the door. I don't bring back my patients. That has been made abundantly clear to me, after the first time I did it. The nurses do that, and she was told (multiple times) to tell THEM,not me, when a chart was ready.

Lately, it's been more irritating, like the instance where I was in the back, talking to the doc, and writing on a chart, obviously busy. Here she comes, and shoves a paper in my face, right on top of where I was writing, and proceeds to start talking over doc and I. I held up my hand for her to stop, and not only did she not, she voiced her displeasure at having been put off with "Well, they're ON the PHONE!"

The final straw was last week, when she ran into my office and blurted out, "You know Mrs. X that you saw on Monday? She's on the phone, and she says she's not any better."

Now, first, she knows to pull a chart and take a message, even if I'm not with a patient. Second, I had seen several others and slept since I had seen Mrs. X, and had no idea what she had been seen for.And third, AFTER she did all that, and AFTER I told her that the woman had not given her abx time to work and to tell her to give it another day or so, I hear her get on the phone and tell Mrs X what I said, followed by "But Angelfire'll be here all afternoon if you wanna come by and see her."

This prompted a talk with both her and the OM. Things got settled, I thought.

Then, this morning. I look at my schedule and see that quite a few of the appts are simply listed as "sick". The assistant had been spoken to about that before I ever said anything about anything, so I mentioned it again, backed up by the OM's right hand, who told her that she HAD to ask for symptoms (we had a bad turnout due to this, which is why we insist), and she brushed us off, "Well, you weren't getting any more outta HER."

I hate to whine to OM again so soon, but this chick is driving me crazy, and she's supposed to be my "wingman"! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
