Fiber and how it effects the GI Tract

I'm a nursing student trying to learn how fiber directly effects the GI Tract. Does an increase in fiber result in more formed stool? Or visa versa?

Thanks!
Not trying to be snarky, but the answer should be in your text book and you should really retrieve the answer from that source. It would be one thing to post what you already know and to ask for perspective, but you're asking for the answer.

Comment:
It would really be better if you googled this information, if you're having a hard time understanding it in the textbook. I wouldn't suggest coming on this website looking for answers to homework assignments.

School hasn't even started yet. How could I have an assignment before class begins? Thanks for the help.

I'm still in school. The quarter doesn't end for another week and a half. Just finished my last A&P 3 exam and still have 2 more in other classes to go. Not every school lets out for the summer. As the above poster stated, if you know something about it, then it's best for you to post what you know and ask about what you aren't understanding. Then people will chime in to try and help. Nobody was trying to not be helpful, just trying to encourage people to do a little research first. That's all. You may actually get more responses if this were posted in the student forum as well.

Ok thanks for the responses. It's clear you both don't know the answer either.

Thanks for sending the article. Was it so hard to go through all that instead of just telling me that fiber makes your bowels hard and leads to constipation?

Comment:
You entirely missed the point. First off, the correct answer SHOULD have been as easy as Google, but it obviously wasn't. Fiber prevents constipation. It doesn't cause it.
