I would like to get certified in specialties.... HELP!Rating: (votes: 0) ![]() I am in the process of getting my RN. After I graduate I would like to get certified in different specialties. How could I do this? Is there a website I can look up all this information in? Thank you all for your help!!! ![]() By specialty certifications I'm assuming you mean things such as the CCRN (ICU) CMSRN (Med-surg), CEN (ER), etc. For any nursing specialty you need to have worked in your field for 2 years full-time, or the equivalent of around 1500-2000 hrs in those 2 years. Most hospitals, at least magnet ones anyway, will offer review clases to help nurses prepare for certification, then, you take the test. If you pass, ta-da you're certified. Typically you will need to work so many hrs a year, and do other things to maintain certification. Comment:
Relax and obtain your nursing degree! That's enough on your plate for now.No matter what specialties you might think that you will like, it's likely that your mind will change a little or a lot after clinicals and practicing for a couple of years.
