Pet Peeve

7 Went to doctor today, got to the registration desk (not at all private, one long desk with multiple staff sitting behind it, and other patients also standing there) Then she says "Are you still at *gives my address*, your phone number is *states my phone number", etc. Annoying. I would really like to have my right to privacy begin at the registration desk! Seriously, can't they just say "Has your address or phone number changed since your last visit?" My husband works a profession where it is necessary for us to keep our phone number/address, etc private. Then we are walking down the hallway "What are we seeing you for today?" Not exactly appropriate conversation in the Hall...I am irritated.
What is your Pet Peeve, as a Patient?
oooh I totally agree with you! We have to guart pt privacy with our lives (in the hospital), even going so far as to lie and say "I have no pt with name" if requested. But in the clinics it seems like a free-for-all. My pet peeve is when someone with someone with CNA or medical assistant on their name tag introduces him/herself to me as a NURSE. um, no.

Rigid privacy laws and see through, hear through curtains. what's the point?

they do that at my Dr's office too .. i wish they would do it another way... like print out your name and address and phone number and ask you if it was still current.. rather than asking out loud...

Oh yea, I hate when they do that. How about when you go to the pharmacy to pick up your prescription and the tech blurts out the medication you're taking. This is so embarrassing and inappropriate. I suffer from acne and use a topical cream and the tech blurted out how to use it by saying," you know that you are suppose to apply the cream to all affected areas." This person didn't specify by saying your face or areas of acne, but areas in general and people where looking at me weirdly. It was so embarrassing. SMH

This annoys me too. I went to pick up a prescription today at my doctors office (long story).The receptionist asked me what medication I was taking and expected me to answer with three other receptionists and waiting room full of people standing by. I wrote it down for her instead.

I love when they give you the specimen jar to pee in.. and say "I NEED YOU TO PEE INTO THIS CUP, SO WE CAN TEST FOR YOUR BLADDER INFECTION, AND THEN BRING IT BACK OUT TO ME".. yeahhh because i want to bring you my red stained pee back through reception to you...

I worked as a pharmacy tech for many, many years and it is a BIG no-no to say the patient's medication out loud. How violating!I know the last time I was at my OB's office, they have mammogram scheduling at a desk right next to where you check out. The person working there asked a woman "do you have breast implants?" and I was standing behind her in line. I thought that was so inappropriate. What if she did have them and didn't want the whole world knowing? Just my

I know my Aunt was very upset when they announced at the nurses station she needs her methodone. She was so upset, the nurse used her name and she felt like people were going to assume she is a drug addict. She uses Methadone for pain management after a nerve injury. I felt so bad for her.

My MIL went in recently for an outpatient procedure...and the nurse came out, looked at her and asked "are you the colonoscopy?"She was beyond mad and embarassed. She felt first off- she was treated like a procedure not a person- and it was a privacy violation.

Since we're on the topic..I've never understood the concept of patient privacy when it comes to shared patient rooms.. I realize its impossible for every patient to have their own room. But I don't understand how we can talk HIPAA all day long and then have MD's..RN's..every other professional in and out of rooms all day with one patient's private info within earshot of their roommate..I've never been comfortable with it as a nurse.. I can't imagine how it must feel to be the one in the bed
