Relocation guidance/advice

Due to the economy, I've decided to relocate and have applied to jobs out of state. I have no problem moving as I have no obligations. My father was in the military and I have been to 6 elementary schools, so I am no stranger to adapting to change. My fiance and I plan on starting a family after we settle in our new place. He works in healthcare as well and the job he does has more openings. I have no plans of leaving the state after I am hired and develop experience. Honestly, we are looking for an area that has a natural aesthetic, mountains, valleys, etc. We love the snow.

The places we are considering are:

SLC Utah
Tulsa Oklahoma

Has anyone relocated to these areas? What is your experience? How was the hiring process?
Just as something fun to do: There is a site called FindYourSpot.com that is about 4 pages of questions about lifestyle, work, preferences, etc. that then gives suggestions of places ranked as to how well they fit your answers.You might enjoy it and find some places you never considered before.

Might want to check into Travel Nursing also...would give you a foot in the door and an oppurtunity to "try it out" to see if you like it.

Hello. I actually relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma after graduation from nursing school. That was three years ago, and I cant seem to escape this place.. I moved here not knowing anyone or anything. I did all my interviews over the telephone due to the fact that i originally lived 6 hours away. After the initials interviews, I scheduled a weekend to come look over the hospitals and check out the town. I love Tulsa...it really does have something for everyone. I consider it a " big city, with a small town feel" Hope this helos

I am not familiar with the job markets in the areas you are considering, but I would HIGHLY recommend that you land a job first, then move. I've seen posts here where people have moved first and then couldn't find a job.

I tried to relocate to SLC, Utah in 1999. I tried and tried to find an apt. that would allow me to have my 2 cats with me. I was not able to find a place that would allow pets so I cancelled my move to SLC. Of course, that was years ago so maybe things have changed now?

I relocated last year from Phoenix to Ohio it was a huge event but one which eventually worked out well. I always thought I would write a blog on how to do it properly because we learn't lots of lessons along the way.I do agree with the poster who recommends having a job before you move.

There is a great quality of life to be had in SLC. Go for it.

I am relocating to Tennessee after landing my first RN job, good luck to you and I wish you well. Just curious have you thought of East Tennessee it has mountains, valleys, snow and low cost of living. I interviewed with Mountain States Health Alliance and was offered all three positions. Low pay but low cost of living too. Excellent benefits and incentives, just a thought.
