Are these holidays off the norm?Rating: (votes: 0) - New Year's Day - July 4 - Labor Day - Thanksgiving Day - Friday after Thanksgiving - Christmas Day - 1 personal "floating holiday" to be used at my discretion - Birthday holiday to be used 30 days prior to birthday through 30 days after birthday The handbook goes on the say that if a holiday falls on a weekend, it is the company's discretion whether to close the Friday before or Monday after the holiday. I have been a PRN hospital nurse working nearly full-time hours for 8 years, so this is my first job working full-time M-F. Does the above look fair and reasonable for a full-time position? Thanks! Not necessarily for nursing, but in general, eight days is the norm. My last employer had the same as you describe, with the exception of 2 floaters rather than 1 floater and one birthday, which is a little better, but is a minor detail, IMO. Comment:

Quote from nursaliciousThanks. This is really helpful. I was just thinking, maybe I should've asked someone in-the-know about this before I accepted the job offer. I'm pretty happy, because this is the first time in my career I get paid while having holidays off and I will also acrrue PTO.

It's awesome. We get an extra $2/h on Christmas, NewYears and Thanksgiving. Thats it.

Quote from April, RNAs a hospital nurse, I think your new schedule sounds pretty great! I'm a little surprised that you don't have Memorial Day off, but that wouldn't bother me a bit if I got paid for all those other holidays AND got weekends off. Good luck with the new job!

I'm surprised Memorial Day is not included in the list!

Quote from nursaliciousI didn't want to sound like a brat in my original post, but I was surprised about Memorial Day not being included as an observed holiday as well. And I'll go ahead and be honest further, I'm a little disappointed Christmas Eve is not a paid holiday off. Overall though, I am very excited about my new job.

Quote from Katie5(Pulling hair out in vexation) Why do people do this? You were excited and on top of the world to have landed this job and then because of a few minor details, you almost want to rescind the offer? We can't always have it all.

Quote from MeriwhenGetting the Friday after Thanksgiving as a holiday is a fair trade for Christmas Eve, since there's still some places that won't consider Black Friday as a paid holiday...which can suck because then you'd have to use PTO if you wanted to travel for Thanksgiving.

Wow, I didn't know any company had Christmas Eve or Black Friday as a paid holiday!
