What is the longest long day anyone works???

Just out of curiosity I wonder who across the world officially works the longest long day. Rules are travelling time plus working hours......

My regular hours are 07.00 till 19.30 which is a reasonable 12.5 hours plus an hours travelling so 13.5.

My bank ward works 07.00 till 21.00hrs a much more feet wearing, back breaking 14 hours plus an hours travelling so 15 in total.

but my day is a walk in the park compared to a colleague who also works the 07.00 till 21.00hrs but with 2 hours travelling per day, which by my sums makes his day 16 hours. Fine for a one off but two in a row makes my eyes water.

I am sure there are nurses out there working longer so over to you................
Ok, let me do some arithmetic...We don't have night staff in our OR. Those on call for the week get to stay on and finish lists running late. So, one Monday, I leave home at about 6h30, start at 7. Work till 7pm, that's 12 hours. Surgical list which started at 13h00 just kept going....and going.... until something after 3am. That's another 8 hours. Total 20.5 hours so far. Clean up, check drugs, get changed-about 3h30 or thereabouts. Got home somewhere in the region of 4am, so add another hour, that's 21.5. Think I scored a record there?

I takes me 3.5 hours to get to work... added to the 12 hours gets me to 15.5 on my "bookend days" but only 12 on my middle day. 2 hours of OT is not unheard of so the day can get to 17-18. I've pulled a couple of doubles and both times had OT at the end... those ended up being 26-27 hr days.

I worked a couple of 21 hour days and a few 18 hour shifts in home health. These were exceptional situations though, not the norm.

Looking at it another way, in October I worked travel, patient visits, care conferences, office time and charting, and on call, working 48 hours on weekends, and managed to get two, count 'em, two complete days off. Does taking on call duty after working all day count? I had no scheduled days off in November, so I quit. I'm slightly amazed I made it through, and am still numb & dumb from fatigue, but I am enjoying the leisure of looking for a job!

Every day I work I leave my house at 5PM and get home at 9AM. Sometimes I'll stay over when day-shift is short and I'll get home at 1-2PM.
