CCRNs in Texas?Rating: (votes: 0) Mahalo! Hi MR2012,The CCRN certification is for experienced ICU nurses to get certified in their specialty. It is granted by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) and has nothing to do with your state or the Board of Nursing. You must already have an RN license and must have worked at least 1,750 hours as a bedside nurse in an ICU to sit for the exam. CCRN is not required in order to work in an ICU. Here is a link from the AACN with FAQs about the CCRN certification:http://www.aacn.org/WD/Certifications/Docs/CCRNFAQs.pdf Comment:
You've got it backwards you have to WORK in an ICU for awhile in order to be eligible to take the test...If you're looking to be competitive, it might be better to take NRP (neonatal resuscitation program) and PALS (pediatric advanced life support) certifications. Good luck!
