Treatment of VRSA/MRSA??Rating: (votes: 0) Then if you have VRSA. How do we treat that? Are all patients with MRSA or VRSA treated. How do you know if you have the active stages or colonized?? Thanks in advance Do they have active s/s of an infection, if no and c/s are positve then it is colonized and does not get treated. If active s/s then yes treatment. I asked this question to an Infectious Disease doc and that was the answer. Comment:
Vanc is first rx of choice for mrsa. I haven't had much experience with vrsa, so don't know what they use. ????

You've got a case of VRSA? Wow, that's really rare here in the States. We had a micro lab type that entered VRSA instead of MRSA and you should've seen the panic. Linezolid would probably treat it. For MRSA we also use Bactrim and/or Clindamycin, depending on the sensitivities. If the pt is asymptomatic, and the count is low, we consider it a colonization. It seems here on the East Coast, everyone's colonized.
Comment:
Treatment of VRSA or VISA is Imepenem or meropenem.
