All things happen for a reason. Regroup, refocus and relax - then get back in there and try something new!

I have been through this before. I dreaded going to work my stomach was in knots. I would cry on the way to work. When I was layed off I felt bad at first but I am relieved I no longer have to work at a place that made me hate being a nurse. I have worked in nursing before and while it was hard I never felt so frustrated and felt like I never had the time to take good care of my patients. I working a prn school nurse job and love it. Take the time to find out what part of nursing you want to do. When you interview look around talk to coworkers, do they all seem very stressed? Talk to people who have worked there before and asked them if they would ever want to work there again? Its important to get a feel for the job before you take it.

I actually want to do the same thing. Take a break & figure out what kind of nursing I want to do. & I haven't even working that long to feel burnt out. I just don't like what I'm doing. I've worked in long term care for a few months, and didn't like it... Now I'm in ICU, & feel like crap, like idk what I'm doing, like I'm incompetent.. I feel so small!! I want to quit, really... I want to just take a break & try to find something in OB (since ive always been interested in OB & just didn't have any opportunity.. I literally just took my previous jobs because I needed money.. & that's the real problem for me... Coz i really don't have a choice.. I need to have a job.. I'm the breadwinner of my family...I just feel so screwed up!

Yes, Absolutely it is OK. Many of us fail to take time out for ourselves to regroup and refresh.

LOL - - I thought you meant a break during your work hours!!! And that's okay, too!

It is so ok for you to take a break. I have had a couple of jobs where I would cry myself to sleep the night before because I did not want to go. There were times when I was scheduled PRN and got called off at the last minute. After I would hang up the phone, I would do a "victory dance". My husband would say, what is it? Did you get a raise? I'd say no baby, I don't have to go in today.

What are some examples of what makes you feel this way? Is it daily happenings that you never seem to get a break from? It sounds so sad!

Ohhhhhh, yeah.......it is DEFINITELY okay to take some time to recuperate from a job like that. In fact, if you don't you may even wind up back in the same sort of situation again because you won't have absorbed the lessons learned from this one. You don't want THAT to happen!
