on the job psych testing

Hello Fellow Nurses. I want to put this out there and see if anyone has an opinion or comment. I've been working at a SNF for > 10 yrs. Management changed about 2 years ago. 1 month ago our DON came in and had a few of us take a MMPI like test. No one refused r/t peer pressure and fear of consequences. Now we have to go down and see a psych expert. This is all very strange, my company is spending money on this, and I would think it's very expensive, when our Christmas party ect have been done away with. What the heck?????
Did anyone ask WHY they were selected for testing, or the purpose of the test?MMPI assesses personality traits, not for mental illness, stability, or work competence. If it's for research they should have informed you of such. Please let us know what the outcome of this is.

Oh my... can they really force you to do that?We just had an informal health related survey, and I skimmed it and handed it directly back to the ADON. Do not want!

Sounds nuts (no pun intended). If they didn't give you a specific reason, get your consent (and not penalize anyone for NOT taking it) and administer it to everybody, they could take the #2 pencil needed to complete the thing and send it somewhere lined with mucous membranes. None of their business. Even psych nursing jobs I had didn't require an MMPI (and a few of the folks there in charge of the joint could have used a diagnosis )This sounds creepy.

Many major players in many industries are now drinking the MMPI koolaid from Target to Halliburton to Marriott to hospitals.

The old psych major in me is curious about this MMPI-like testing, but that really isn't even the point. From your post, it sounds like a lot of things are going on at your workplace without a lot of communication from management.

Hello everyone, thanks for your input. Yah the whole thing was very strange and seemed underhanded. With all of our budget cuts it seems like this would not be necessary. However they did do it. Our follow up session seemed like it was to develop a positive employee attitude. WOOO WHO.

I have had to take "an assessment" when applying o line for jobs. That's crazy : roll eyes : aren't we all a little bit so for being in this profession??
