One of the best...Invaluable to the unit

I AM VENTING!

I finish my RN program in about 3 weeks. I have been talking to my director about getting a job on my unit since my yearly evaluation in March. Everytime since we have spoken about me begining my career on my floor she tells me how "invaluable of an employee that I am especially with my skill set...One of the very best..." Our unit has had major turnover since she came aprox. 70%. I have worked as a tech for about 3.5 years in this unit and I'm one of the few people who have stayed. When we have difficult people she assigns them to me because I am the "smoother over person". I make everyone happy she says, "You are excellent at your job." I come in when they are short staffed.

I called today because there was job posting in our unit. She stated that she was holding or taking the job back off, because "we have so many new nurses". She recently hired techs from the floor that have called in or have been undependable in the past. I have been recommended by the manager, charge RNs. Now Im thinking that she doesn't want to hire me regardless of my track record.

That is my nightmare. To do everything right to get ahead and excel only to be screwed over.

I toiled at a crappy nursing home for two years, then home health for a year before getting my sought-after job as a CNA on a hospital Med/Surg floor two miles from my house. I absolutely kicked butt at that job; always given the hardest assignments and RNs were practically drawing cards to get me as their aide.Good luck!

This is why bending over backwards for a corporation is a waste of your time...and they complain we aren't loyal! Gee, I wonder why!

This may sound trite, and I don't mean it to.... but maybe this is a good thing to have happen now, rather in another 3.5 years, when you've spent even more time doing all you can to be valuable, and for some reason you get cut.... My guess (not knowing anything about where you are, or the people you work with) is that they mean that they like you and value your work. Something else is going on that you don't know about. I'm sorry it's happening, but healthcare isn't known for being all that great to employees. If you're lucky, you work with good people on your floor, and just hope administration isn't horrible Something will come along that is right, and gives you opportunities you didn't even know you wanted

****UPDATE****I went into the hospital yesterday to get a letter of recommendation. My manager printed out the letter. I reinerated that I wanted to stay with my current company hospitals but wanted to keep my options open soI was applying for that position too, she agreed...after completing the letter on the way out of the office she stated that she had to do an interview. HMMM...interview huh? Okay . I check last night to see if there were any jobs open on the unit, nothing was posted. I look today like I do almost everyday on the job boards....Yep there it was. I at a loss of words. She has previously stated and knows that I am a good employee and still nothing. Heck maybe she is faker than a $1k bill. I could see if I had not mentioned working in the department but that is not the case. Would it be rude to ask for my resume back since she had no interest in hiring me anyway...Okay no I wouldn't do that..VENTING and FRUSTRATED
