Threads being moved....

1 Sometimes it just doesn't make sense why certain threads get moved. This is the General Nursing Discussion board right? Nobody goes to some of the other parts of the site that many of these threads get moved to, thus reducing exposure, reducing feedback. I understand when something blatently deserves to be in a specific thread, but this is getting kind of rediculous. Why have a "general discussion" board if you're just going to move everything out to 1 out of 50 other threads. This is just annoying to me.
I appreciate threads being moved that belong in other subforums to be honest. Most of the time they are either so specific that there's no reason for them to be in the general forum (ie: region or topic specific) or they are repetitive of things that have been posted before. In any case, my understanding is that the general nursing forum is intended for things that don't fit in other subforums and that if things fit elsewhere, they get moved. It decreases the overall clutter. Sorry you get annoyed by it.

I've been coming to this site for years and it seems that more recently, more and more gets moved. I like the way the site was handled before. People ask questions because they actually want a response. There's not a lot of traffic in a board titled "nurse colleagues/patient relations"...that's where my post was moved to and I don't really understand why. I personally don't think my thread fits in that category, as I feel it's more "general" than that. It's not the first time a thread I started gets moved off to some random section and then basically is hidden from others to see since most traffic is in general discussion. It's not that big of a deal, but I just wish allnurses.com would be what it used to be because I don't like the way they are handling it now.

If the forum allowed any topic to be posted in the general nursing forum just to generate more responses then there wouldn't be any point to having seperate forums at all. The Allnurses staff move threads to the appropriate forums so that this site can stay organized and accurate. If you're browsing and you want to read threads about OB nursing, they are going to go to that forum. If the OB threads are scattered in the general nursing forum they aren't as easily found. Plus, you might get fewer responses in the specific forums, but they are more likely to be responses from nurses who are actually in that specialty.

Like I said, if it clearly needs to be in another thread, sure, but it seems they are moving just to move these days.

Comment:
At least they aren't closing threads because the discussion has diverted too far from the orig. post. THAT ticks me off.

OP- maybe address this with the staff via the admin help desk ??

Allnurses is getting larger and larger.Things are moved to try and make things easy for everyone. Nothing gets the membership more frustrated when they see the same questions being asked over and over again. Things like students asking homework questions without posting any research they have done to why they think that is the answer. Others are state specific or even country specific. As mentioned this if for more general questions and the other forums are more specific for a subject and more than likely easier to find answers

I have been actively moving threads out of the General Nursing Forum since May.The reasons I move threads is because GNF gets very over crowded and the rest of the forum can be neglected. Once members get used to looking in the correct forum consistently the other forums will be utilized more effectively.I think you may have noticed it more in recent months is because I am very consistent and radical, sometimes I move threads as often as 3 or 4 times a day. If the topic fits another forum I move it, if I can't find a good fit for the topic I let it stay.If your thread is interesting to a lot of people it will still generate traffic from members. Members often look on the home page for recent threads and will go directly to that post, it doesn't matter what forum they go to if they want to respond.
