Wonderful story, thank you for sharing. We do not always get to see the fruits of our labor. I have been fortunate to see some of my previous patients in supermarkets and restaurants, and even when they do not stop me (or even see me!) I am pleased with how far they have come. And I have also been contacted by families who wanted me to know that their loved one has passed and have been greeted with open arms and hearts when I have gone to viewings and funerals.Your story really touches those spots that do not often get to see the light.

Your beautiful and special story had me in tears....thank you for sharing. Yes, as nurses we can make such a difference in the lives of other and leave lasting impressions. Many years ago, as a child, I was hospitalized for a mundane surgery (nothing like what your patient went through!). One nurse who worked in the evening made an enormous difference and made my hospital stay bearable; she was kind, gentle and patient (and I thought ever-so-pretty with her red hair in a pony tail) tucking me in with a hug and kiss each evening at bedtime. As a child, I decided that when I grew up I wanted to be just like Nurse B. I did become a nurse and I'm pretty certain all these years later that Nurse B was my inspiration. Almost 50 years later I can still see her smiling face looking down at me and feel the gentle caress of her hand on my forehead. How lovely that your patient was able to share her appreciation with you, an appreciation that will last a lifetime....

Thank you for your wonderful story. It brought tears to my eyes, This is what makes you want to be a nurse, and makes all the crap we put up with worth it.
