placed ice instead of heatRating: (votes: 0) report received this morning, patient was on cardizem gtt that was dc'd they loaded him c IV digoxin. so I'm assessing I see the site is mildy red this AM when I'm assessing around mid-afternoon its worse and more swollen. I take that IV out and place a new one, elevate the arm and place a ICE pack!! thinking i did everything right, about 2 hours later it's still bothering him. I place a call and have our IV therapy come take a look, and she's saying it's phlebitis and should have placed heat!! i felt horrible! should I be too concerned?? thanks : ) Ice is the standard treatment for phlebitis, unless something's changed lately. We always use ice for phlebitis in my institution. Comment:
It's ice with phlebitis, heat with an infiltration, if I remember correctly....
