Do they check to see if you have your BSN/Masters degree ?Rating: (votes: 0) I had to give my job a copy of my BSN. Otherwise, no go. Comment:
Thank you......just wondering.....seems like you cannot get anything if you are just a plain old RN anymore....and funny thing about that.....when I was graduating from Nursing School, I KNEW that I would have to get another degree soon after, cause they were asking for them way back when.......thanks for your input...

Every nursing job I've ever had has verified my education as part of the application/hiring process. Yes, they contact the school directly and ask them to verify that you graduated, with what degree and on what date. If you fib about your education because they are looking for a higher degree of education than you have, most healthcare employers will consider that grounds to drop you from consideration, or fire you if you've already been hired by the time they find out. Don't do it.

I have talked to Nurse Managers that will hire you if you are currently enrolled in a BSN program. So, if you can take even 1 class a semester, even online, you put yourself ahead of the competition. And Magnet status has a lot to do with facilities pushing for advanced degrees.

They will call your school to verify your graduation date and if they can't verify it, you won't have a job.I had some trouble with my school not marking us as "graduated" until we got our diplomas 2 months after we finished our classes, and this almost cost me my job. It took a lot of fixing on my end.

I've found photocopying someone else's degree then using wite-out over the name then filling mine in works just fine.

OP, are you saying that your working experience is that human resources or the management of the hiring organization does not verify credentials?

Thanks, I was just wondering. I wouldnt forge anything...although I was tempted to because of desperation. But its not worth losing my license or my reputation doing something like this. so much for my desperation.

Yes, they do check. Depending on the facility, you will be required to provide an original transcript, or they may contact the school to verify your graduation/enrollment.
