Patient Access is a department that includes Registration (ER patients), Admitting Associates (From ER-->Floors), Outpatient Registration (Labs, xrays, etc registrations)You need to have good customer service skills, High school diploma, and pretty much fast-paced work - collect insurance card from patient, smile, get signatures, etc.. and move onto next patient.. depends on facility how busy you are.

I work in Patient Access; you have to multi-task very well and be able to smile when people yell at you (ha!) It is an entry-level position but typically there is a lot to learn as far as insurance plans; there are a lot of them and they can be complex. Knowledge of medical terminology is desirable, especially when you are trying to decipher a doctor's writing on an order. Computer skills, customer service skills, and flexibility are essential.

I am applying for a patient access job. Did you get the job? DO you like the work? Do you now mind answering your questions for me - what all is involved in this kind of work?
