Dear Nurse Beasty....I'm new

9 and I am going to make mistakes, and run a little behind when I get an admission right at the end of the shift ( 0625). But that is because I actually did the admission and took care of faxing all the med orders to pharmacy for you so the meds will be here when you make your rounds. So please, just keep rolling your eyes at me like a broken kewpie doll while I give you report. I love all the huffing and puffing and tongue clicking . I am new now, but I won't be forever. You treat me like dirt on the bottom of your shoe right now, and thats fine. I can take it. So for now I'll eat your crap. But one of these days......that overwhelming urge to smack you in the forhead to fix that eye problem of yours....it might happen.

Ok I feel better. But seriously. If this weaatch doesnt stop rolling her eyes at me and giving me disgusted looks while constantly interuptting my report, its a gonna get ugly!
I would ask if she has something in her eye.

I would ask her if she's having a seizure.

Comment:
I would take it to the your immediate supervisor.. do NOT let her run all over you.

OMG, NellieOlsen is here!!!!(Just kidding, Little House on the Prairie was playing a while ago). Nellie was being a mean little brat (being herself, Lol)I would ask her, . ."Are you finished? . . " before I would continue with report (with that look of righteous indignation on your face!) Also, clear your throat before you start again, that just puts the cherry on top!!! I learned that from my favorite passive agressive nurse, and it works wonders in the eyes of the opponent!!!!!!!Good Luck, you don't have to eat Crap my friend, NO!, from today, if you make the decision, your diet can be Crap Free!!!!Boston

first of all, not all nurses, and especially not every older nurse is an unhelpful and difficult crusty old bat. some seasoned nurses arealways or are capable of becoming real pains, but not all of us. there are nurses with about a year of experience under their belts whosuddenly think they can handle anything at all. they're scary because they don't know how much they don't know.you've been given some good advice so far. becoming absolutely silent has often worked for me. don't antagonize her further. it isn'tworth it and you won't win. don't try to out-nasty or be more sarcastic because i absolutely guarantee you will not win because she'shad a several year headstart on being a bully.that doesn't mean that you have to put up with her obnoxiousness though. not by any stretch of the imagination. if she's doing itto you, i promise she's been doing it to others too. keep a log of her unprofessional behavior and lack of helpfulness, but keep it to yourself. if/when you report her, you'll have proof.if she keeps interrupting you with crap questions, stop talking and don't engage. do not play her power games. practice at home witha good friend. have your friend be every bit as difficult as the nurse is so you won't even blink when she tries to rattle you at work.if you can succeed at that, you will have beaten her at her own petty little game.

GitanoRN, I LMAO too! I got a huge kick out of this because when I was a tech, I got eaten alive. So, I imagine they will try as a new nurse too. But, I will be prepared this time. Beeker, thanks for the laughs!!

Thanks for the support everyone! I know she does it to others, I've seen her make another new nurse cry before. Seeing her do that really helped me to stand my ground with her because I saw her satisfied smug smile when the poor other girl broke down. Most of the staff has been very kind. There are, however, a few intent on making us suffer for awhile. 2 I can think of. Nurse Beasty is the worst to give report to. She is also super mean to the techs, they all hate her. Shes an LPN and has 4 years experience. She has some sort of chip on her shoulder.

I think another important thing is you never know whats going on in someone elses personal life. Not trying to excuse her behavior because frankly nobody should be treated with disrespect at the workplace. I am sorry you are going through this but take what she is doing to you make a mental note of it and when a new nurse comes along in the workplace do everything opposite of what this nurse is doing to you, you are making a wrong right. Hope this helped a little. Continue keeping your head up and don't stoop down to any level.

I just want eveyone to know that I personally would not have had the guts to do what I recommended in my first post to this thread. But, after a year or so, crap started tasting worse and worse.I had this nurse on day shift, that would test me every AM (oh yeah, she had a rep, and my supe just told me to ignore her).Oh, but I did try soooooo hard for soooooooo long. One morning she came on shift, and I was just visiting the floor before I left to see my buds, and what they were planning for the weekend,. . . . when I seen her coming I got a wonderful idea, . . .I started telling of how I wasn't able to get a Bowel Prep started until 4am this morning, and that I didn't have time to change his sheets or anything, . . . And how sorry I was because I had to give the other two MOM, and another LOC, and now one of them had just hit the JACKPOT, and missed the BSC, but of course I had to go give report.(of course all this was made-up, I didn't even work their floor- had gotten pulled to ER, and this Nurse was flaming (She usually got my patients- and as hard as I tried- everything done, rooms tidy, some baths given, treatments done, ---she was never happy, and could find something to ''call" yes CALL me at home about!!!!! Very little stuff!!! )She started talking to others where I could hear her, and I could hear them agreeing (I was trying to keep a straight face), and then it happened, she picked up the phone, . . .her face was Scarlett with a hint of crimson!Dialing the supe: We have a nurse that has left 2 patients "covered" in feces, not started a Bowel Prep-the patient probably hasn't even been NPO! (i didn't even say that!), ". . .and he is on his way out now, I want this written-up!"(we recorded report anyway, so since she was there now, the desk clerk, and charge nurse waited for report to be over at the desk, covering lights so all the other staff wouldn't go into overtime.)I turned quick to rush out so she could see me do it, I heard her say, "Hey you need to wait, "We" need to have a word!" I acted like I didn't hear her, I heard her telling the Supe, "He's Walking Off, You want me to stop him?"" I knew the supe well, People on other floors pulling nurses asked for me by name. She knew I was a Safe, Caring, and Hardworking Nurse- but just as freaked of this nurse as me.I would have given anything to have heard the supe tell her, "He didn't even work on this unit last night!" They said the Supe was enraged at her. That she walked off with the nurse still complaining, and had asked her why she reported all this "stuff" that she had only "overheard," the Supe thought she had "witnessed" these things, and to further anger her, patient assignments hadn't even been made, This nurse took it all on herself to make me look bad, and try to "get me!"It did not get worse, she never bothered me again, and honestly, I don't think I ever heard her complain of another nurse again. Christmas Morning, 3 mos later, I was so shocked, walking out the door, she said "Merry Christmas." I was astonished! We spoke off and on at least "cordially" after that.
