What a tribute, kessadawn. That little boy is obviously living on in your heart. I think the first one always stays with you in a way that every other one can't. I know I'll remember my first until it's my time to go.

Beautifully written, kessadawn. I hope we never meet under these circumstances, but I know that if my boy were ill, I'd want you as his nurse. What a big heart you have.

So beautiful! I applaud you. I CANNOT EVER do peds, much less PICU. Bless you.

Thanks for such a beautiful story. Brings back memories to me of the first death I experienced on peds......a real heart-breaker that I will never forget.

Thank You for sharing your story. This Little boy that you speak of reminds me of my nephew Lucas who died on October 12th, 2007. he was 6 years old. Lucas was killed in a back over accident in front of his house. I can only hope that Lucas had this kind of impact on someone's life and they worked as hard as you did to save him. Luke had the most beautiful blond curls, his hair was always lighter than his skin. He was very active and was starting to become quite the little artist when he died. Again, thank you for sharing this story, it makes me smile to think Lucas had this kind of care from his nurses, when we could not give it to him.

dragonfly, I am so sorry for your loss! I bet he made a big impact on the nurses that cared for him, and it sounds like he was a special child!

That's such a beautiful, sad story. One of my biggest fears about working on peds too. You obviously are the best kind of nurse, the one who genuinely cares, and I'd be glad to have you taking care of any of my kids.
