Transferring to another unitRating: (votes: 0) Quote from madfowlI need to transfer to another unit. I am one of those who cant stand gossiping, and the constant yakking is driving me crazy! How do I request a transfer sucessfully without letting my NM know that I dislike my coworkers? Comment:
yea... there's a million and one reasons people decide to leave their current unit. Mention something about wanting to broaden horizons, or learn a new field, or you want to challenge yourself a little more etc. No need to bring the coworkers into it at all =)

I don't know the whole story but If I were you I would NOT transfer to another unit just because of gossip. Its simple. Go to work and keep your mouth shut and everything will be ok. Don't even listen to what others are saying about other people. In nursing yakking and gossip is everywhere, even outside of nursing. If I left every job due to gossip I wouldn't have one ! Good luck on the transfer. JMHO.

Seriously, that was my thought. I've always had gossiping at work. Some places more than less. You may go somewhere else where the gossiping is WORSE!! I can handling gossiping, it's the backstabbing I can't stand!!Good Luck!!

This unit is where i want to work is basically an independent role. I will be by myself. Ill give anything for peace and quiet.

Great. You can just say that you were looking for a more "autonomous" position. Don't feel bad about trying to stay sane. Your patients will appreciate it.

i have no prejudice, but some nurses are gossipers. I have an incident with my coworker, and the whole hospital knows in five minute. Now I request to transfer to another unit so that I can concentrate on learning new skills. I prefer working with nurses that can give me a hand, not the ones that only use her month to criticize

I wondered about this too-----what's the most graceful way to handle a transfer if you'll likely be running into the nurses in your former department?
