Plasma Donation Nurse Q...Rating: (votes: 0) I worked in a plasma center. Reactions arent that bad. Mostly hyotensive/vasovagal. One thing to watch out for is getting intimated by donors when you fail their physical. It is not very challenging but it is good for honing your head to toe assessment skills. You wont be sitting in the chair all day. You have to walk around when doing the assessment and if you get called to the donor floor for a reaction. You may also do some counseling for positive test results such as HIV or Hep B or teaching how to care for a hematoma, etc. I do not know if overtime is that common, I only worked there 6 months. I maybe had overtime once a week because they always messed up on the schedule and didnt notice it until I mentioned it during my shift. I dont want to scare you but overall its a good job and a great stepping stone to get somewhere else. I just didnt like it that much because I wanted something busier. Comment:

Thanks for the inside info. I'm still debating if I'll accept an offer. I could at least give it a go and see how I like it. I prefer to stay somewhere long term but with any job you never know how it's gonna go. I'd hate to leave, but if it's not my thing it's not my thing. The pay and benefits at this place are shockingly good ($25/hr, health insurance literally costs a cent per pay period) and I'd hate to pass that up. Downside is distance (20 miles away), hours (pm's and OT a regular occurance), monotony. Eh.

I just accepted a job at a plasma center - which opened up by a biotech company- I worked 1 year in tele, 2+ years in SNF, and 6 months in acute rehab as a supervisor. They offer $32/hr here in San Diego which is good. I get weekends off - definitely no work on sundays since the owner is Christian. The drive is 25 minutes from me and i'm always against traffic. =) My earlier jobs were very stressful and I always ask why i got into nursing.
