Does anyone have experience with obtaining pt glucometer strips and BD insulin syringes. I have a pt who's MD did not write directions (according to pharmacy) for the glucometer strips so they are holding them. Pt has 2 strips left (just discharged from hospital) ... What's the best way to get these things quick? Are they OTC at the pharmacy? Doesn't help that today is sunday.
Yes. #1 Call the pharmacy and have them send you exactly what they want written on the script. #2 Page on-call and have him call the pharmacy or fax an order#3 Profit?

Comment:
Pharmacies are open on Sundays. Hospitals have on-call MDs. I'd page the on-call Endocrinologist and have them call in the script asap.

Comment:
For future reference, strips and lancets are available as OTC. Strips can be quite expensive though. In some states, syringes are also available OTC in packs of 10.

Comment:
Not sure where you are. Kroger has just put their brand test strips on the $4 list! The meter is not about $10. Walmart will do OTC syringes fairly in expensive.
