Femoral IV catheter in awake patient

What are your experiences with inserting a femoral IV catheter in a patient who is awake? Do they tend to fight you? Scream? Cry? Do they try to push your hands away and have to be restrained?
What brought that question to your attention? Sounds like you have a specific situation in mind. And no, that's why the goddess gave us local anesthesia and informed consent. Failing that, there's always sedation.

Comment:
The patients who are awake and alert have informed consent and are usually cooperative in holding still. The ones who code and get femoral lines usually can't complain because they are almost dead so are also cooperative. Both get local anesthetic. We typically don't like to place lines femorally unless its an emergency though.

Comment:
No issues, see it all the time - practically daily. That's what Lidocaine and Midazolam are for.
