I don't hear much about Liability Insurance anymore...

I do not hear much about Liability Insurance anymore.
I have gone to part time Home Health. Nobody that I have asked has their own.
Is this due to the Recession, or is it considered outdated now?
You comments are welcome. and what you think about the general cost if you do carry it.

I absolutely won't practice without it. Not sure if all my coworkers agree, though. We've never discussed it, and it was mentioned in mystify school. I only know about it from a good friend who's been a nurse forever.

In my province it is included in our yearly registration fees. We carry 2million

Our school pounded ot into our heads to make sure we all carry it. I agree it is too cheap not to have it. My carrier gave me a 50% discount my first year of licensure...cool! This discussion reminds me that it is time for me to renew and I should probably do that lol. I wish I had that auto renew that sounds nice!

Fiona,You are lucky! What province do you live? And, if it is not too personal, can I ask about how much in US dollars you spend a year to renew your license, or is it every two years?

There have been several threads about it recently. And we did discuss it in nursing school.

Every nurse should carry their own malpractice/liability insurance, Never practice without it. These days they will also protect you for HIPAA violations and will provide an attorney. For the $200.00 or so dollars a year (in the US) it it foolish not to have it in todays litigious society. I carried it for 34 years. Never had to use it but it was very comforting to know it was there.

and they will tell you at your new job that you don't need it. Get it anyway.

I tell every new nurse and even a few more experienced nurses that it is a must have along with your license. Don't ever trust your employer to cover you. You need someone in your corner to help you.
