Pregnant! When to tell supervisor?

2 Hey guys, first off, hooray!!! I'm 2-3 weeks pregnant. Suuuuuperexcited!!! I'm an OR nurse (and a new grad-could I have picked a crazier more stressful time in life??) and I'm wondering if I should go ahead and let my DON and charge nurse know because of x-ray/chemicals like formalin/heavy-ish lifting that is common in the OR setting? When did y'all tell? What do you think? Obviously it's too early to tell family and friends, but I want to make sure I protect my little nugget as best as I can and it will be hard as a circulator to stand behind a door during X-ray without 'splainin a little. Ahhhhhh my husband and I are thrilled!!!!!! Wheeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for your insight :-)
First and most importantly: CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS and best wishes to you and your lil' brineshrimp.Secondly:As an OR nurse to an OR nurse, it is imperative that you inform your charge/manager as soon as possible so that assignments and accommodations can be made to remove you from all possible risky cases: cement, prolonged X-ray exposure, etc and so proper protective equipment can be provided--> Going forward, if you do not already, it is of utmost importance you wear both a skirt and vest with appropriate overlap of the abdomen so as to prevent X-ray exposure to Niblet. A lead gown/smock is not acceptable.Furthermore, should you need an altered schedule for pre-natal care or because your mornings suddenly involve a little less running on time and little more heaving your ever loving guts out, they can work with with you instead of against you.Although you are telling your manager and charge, you are well within your rights to request that this news, although fantastic, be kept on the down low and left to your discretion as to when and if anyone is told.Kindest regards and best wishes,~~CP~~

If you're two weeks pregnant, that means you just ovulated. When you talk about pregnancy, you also add the twoish weeks from last period to ovulation. So you're probably 4-5 weeks. Congrats! I would wait until after about 10 weeks, then tell your manager. Good luck! In a normal pregnancy, lifting is not a concern.

I agree with CP 100%! Congrats and enjoy this time. The first few months seem to drag on, but I'm in my 9th month and wonder where the last 3 went.

Thanks so much yall! I didn't check back on this thread til my break, do I had already done a spine case with X-ray and only a single-layer apron <:-/. Just told my DON, and yea I'm a dingbat, I didn't stop to think weeks from LMP- that considered, I'm 5 weeks now. Holy cow! Thanks for your support, love, and wisdom!! xoxo

I agree with CheesePotato..normally, there is no reason to tell right off the bat unless you work in an area like yours. To me, that is an exception.You did the right thing.Congrats!!!!
