Please explain this to me....

I seriously would like to understand the 'anatomy' of this question. I know that ANYTHING is possible. Truly, I do. But someone PLEASE explain to me how a person can declare a true allergy to eggs, yet eat the crap outta hot wings! When my patient told me this, I honestly thought this was a joke! I realize some things are not palatable to everyone but an allergy to something as relative as eggs to a chicken??? Really! Maybe some of you biology/chemistry/anatomy lovers can chime in. Thanks!!! When people have a true egg allergy, it usually from the albumin in egg whites. Just because the egg comes from a chicken doesn't make them allergic to chicken, just like if someone was allergic to chicken they would not automatically be allergic to eggs. Just like someone allergic to milk can eat a big juicy burger.

Comment:
Wow, really? I never heard that but then again, I never gave much thought to an egg allergy until I saw this allergic patient enjoying his feast, either.

Funny experience! some people just dont give until a sentinel event occurs and the individual appear dumbfounded. Ive witnessed alot of weird things people do. I shouldn't say weird; better term different. Also, I thank you again for advice on my exams. It's not anatomy that has you confused, it's physiology. Allergy is a response to a foreign protein, and there are lots of different proteins in chicken meat. However, the biggest part of an egg is albumin, the white part, and that is the protein that people react to in egg allergy.

Comment:
Lots of people have egg allergies but no allergies to chicken. The protein component is completely different. I believe it is the egg whites. Lots of vaccines have components of egg in them (i.e. flu vaccine).

A lot of people say they are allergic to thing when they are not. Sometimes they simply don't like the thing, other times they have had an adverse., but not allergic reaction (such as experiencing nausea after morphine)

Quote from xoemmylouox Exactly or my favorite is an allergy because they had diarrhea while on an antibiotic or developed a yeast infection afterwards..

Don't know what "smh" means. Could you please not use txtspk, if it isn't a typo for something? Also, some people, including many nurses who should know better, don't know that itching after morphine is common and not the result of allergy.
