Do you read hospital Yelp reviews?

1 When I search for hospitals on Google, I come across the their website then the Yelp page for that hospital almost right under the hospital link.

Occasionally I'll read the reviews, and I usually find the comments funny, and my God, they're so verbose (it's like they wrote term papers). When I say I find the comments "funny," I mean the review in question isn't the greatest review, and you're laughing at the person who posted it or the post or both. There will be the few that have legit complaints (in all fairness, if my family member's foley bag was full, and it looked like it had blood, I'd be upset), but some of these other comments make me shake my head, and it gives credence (besides the Press Ganey crap some of us put up with) to the threads where the major complaint is the customer-service model institutions subscribed to.

I think the only reason I find them funny is because they're not in my unit's Press Ganey book binder.

Yeah, I have. I have to sit on my hands not to give scathing replies back about how they didn't belong in the ER in the first place and that doc/nurses aren't clairvoyant gods.

They provide great insight about how our patients/family members perceive us. Remember, as Lee Atwater said "perception is reality" Patients don't know what happens behind the scenes - or how things work. They only know what they are experiencing & try to interpret it from their own frames of reference. If we know the issues, we can take actions to clarify misconceptions.

Also look at your facilities FB page.. I bet there are some real Gems there too.

Thanks to the OP, I looked up the yelp reviews for the prominent hospitals including mine. These are the "best" hospitals in the area. Sadly, 99% of the negative reviews are complaints about billing department... People love the doctors, love facility, impressed with nursing care, and then... the bills come, and confusion and frustration ensue.
