How long have you been at your current facility?

1 Just curious how long have you all been at your current facility. Overall do you like it? Do you see yourself staying there longer?
In three weeks, I will have been there one year. I love what I do and I love where I work, and I can see myself working here for the rest of my career, in one capacity or another.I have a bit of job ADHD (ennui might be more accurate), and after about two years in a job, I start getting antsy, wanting to do something different. So while I definitely know I'm not going to be in my current position for more than another year or two, I hope to get promoted through the ranks and eventually be CNO.

At my hospital for 3 months, but within the hospital system for 15 months. I did a job transfer to a specialty I love. I will be in women's health for the rest of my nursing career. I'm not sure if I'll be at my hospital for 30 years because nursing is a new career of mine. I may possibly move into WIC/Healthy Start in the very distant future. Right now I'm enjoying not coming from work exhausted physically and mentally and on the days I have off, I'm not in bed recovering.

10 yrs this year. Same hospital. Same department. Peds critical care. There's good days and bad. But that's the same everywhere. Love what I do and that's what matters to me.

Main job: 10 years in January. Seven as a tech and almost 3 as an RN. Other job: 1 year in September.I know you didn't ask about prior jobs, but...CNA in LTC: 11 years (left to be a STAHM, but took private clients)Caregiver for private clients: 5 years (they all passed away and I went to my current job).Where I go, I stay because I get comfortable and I like comfort No, I don't always like it.Sometimes, I even hate it, but if it was fun, they wouldn't call it "work".

Nine years so far with six as a cna and three as a nurse. I love it but wish I could move the place to an areawith a shorter winter. I keep from being bored or getting burned out by staying in the float pool.

Current facility: 15 years. I do like it here. I work with reasonable patient loads, accessible doctors on hand, plenty of supplies, working equipment, and a good manager (who I worked with for years in patient care before she became manager). My coworkers are a smart, diverse and hard working group. Sometimes I feel like the slow, clumsy nurse compared to them. I work in a place with high standards, so I do have the joy of taking good care of the patients. I see myself staying a while. They work with my per diem schedule well, and unless I go back for a BSN, I wonder if I would be able to land as good a situation.The kids are getting older, and eventually I might want to return to full-time work. That will be my crossroads. Do I want to continue, or try something new?I also recognize that a culture of a workplace can change. A new manager who does not like you, hospital mergers, changing requirements (BSN or die), or other changes can upset my plans for staying.

My entire career, 27 yrs, in the same department. I work on an inpatient psychiatric unit and have no plans to leave. It's not perfect but we are a close team with a good manager and great docs. We've all worked together a long time. On day shift most have more seniority than me. The newest nurse has about 17 years with us!

This time, 22 years. Last 17 or so in the ER. Also worked here for about 5 years before that, with a 3 year hiatus while my hubby was in school in another state.

17 years for the company,..10 years in my current department.

I've been at my current facility for 13 years, and almost 1 as an RN. Before that, I was a unit clerk before and during nursing school. So far I'm on my 3rd unit, but wouldn't have left my previous one (NICU) if they'd had an open position when I got my license. I had to take what I could get. Overall, I like the facility, minus the dog and pony shows that occur periodically. I sort of feel like that's what the surveys are. I also would love to get back to NICU and away from my current unit.Do I see myself staying here long-term? Probably, for two reasons: We live within 2 hours of most of our family, and I'm vested in the pension plan. On the other hand, my husband would love to move someplace warmer. Either way, we're not moving until I have finished my BSN and fulfilled my commitment to the current place, as they're paying for said BSN.
