intermediate telemetry

Hello, I just got hired on intermediate telemetry/stroke unit. I have been a nurse for a little over a year and will be switching from LTC/rehab. I wanted to know if anyone would give me any advice to make this transition go smoothly and what to expect the different type of patients and meds. I want to be prepared as much as possible, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to learn EKG's there are some sites on line that you could start working on. Also, there is a stroke learning site with NIH, you most likely will need to be certified with this stroke certification to work on that floor. IT is going to be much faster pace than sub-acute or LTC. Learn how to correlate vital signs with medications that you will be giving, how the medication affects B/P and heart rate. Good Luck!!!!

Thank you. The hospital I was hired at has all the training on EKG etc. They hire a lot of new grads. Just a little nervous about the different pts and skills. I know it will take time to become comfortable. Hate being the new one
