Tattoos in the workplace

The hospital I work at has a policy of no tattoos at work. Any tattoos that you do have must be covered up by clothing. I was wondering what other policies are out there. Are tattoos allowed? Is it enforced where you work? Do you like/hate the policy and how would you change it if you could?
Even though this sounds like homework, here are some things to read. I can see you're new to AN, so here's a useful hint: See that little magnifying glass icon up at the top of the page? Hit it, and in the search window enter your search term. In this case, "Tattoos" returns approximately a bazillion hits on AN. Here are a few.http://allnurses.com/general-nursing...ow-894180.htmlhttp://allnurses.com/general-nursing...794-page5.htmlhttp://allnurses.com/nursing-and-pro...re-807508.htmlhttp://allnurses.com/general-nursing...450-page2.html

My employer is pretty liberal about tattoos. A nurse in the ER has two full sleeves that aren't covered. Many more have large visible tattoos.

I don't care if this is homework or not.Tattoos are tacky , should not be allowed in any professional place of employment.

My son volunteers at a local hospital, he has tatoos on both of his forearms. They must be covered with long sleeves. The facility where I work also does not allow visible tatoos nor piercings. Nose piercings must be covered.

Quote from Red KryptoniteYou're free to hold this opinion, just know it's not very current anymore. I suspect it's generational.

Oh no it's not. My step daughter was turned down for a teaching assistant job because on both wrists had tattooed NO REGRETS. Guess what? She's regretting it. Said she wants tattoo removal money for Christmas. I don't like visible ink. My opinion.
