How often do you get "low census" days off?

As the flu season is tapering down, it looks like our patient census is dropping. Fine by me, but now after we have worked extra hard and have done more with less over the past 3 months, we are occasionally being told not to come in due to low census. How often this will happen at my new employer, I don't yet know. How often do YOU need to take a low census day off? Does this happen at most hospitals?
We just had our first call off in months. After changing rooms from semi-private to private, we had too much staff. Then we had too little, and still do. It will be nice to have things be a little calmer, if the time ever does come.

One time in 7 years at my current place. They typically float you to another floor.

In the peds world, we definitely have a slow season in summer. Last year, I got called off at least once every pay period. I have another job, so it is fine by me- I'm able to just pick up there.

casual here.... so all the time

I've been on my unit for almost 3 years. I've been called off twice in those three years. In the ICU we don't float to med/surg, only other ICUs, the PCUs, or as helping hands in the ED.

I learned to cross-train to our busy ER (only trauma center within 50 miles). I was able to work all I wanted
