How often do you get "low census" days off?Rating: (votes: 0) We just had our first call off in months. After changing rooms from semi-private to private, we had too much staff. Then we had too little, and still do. It will be nice to have things be a little calmer, if the time ever does come. Comment:
One time in 7 years at my current place. They typically float you to another floor.

In the peds world, we definitely have a slow season in summer. Last year, I got called off at least once every pay period. I have another job, so it is fine by me- I'm able to just pick up there.

casual here.... so all the time

I've been on my unit for almost 3 years. I've been called off twice in those three years. In the ICU we don't float to med/surg, only other ICUs, the PCUs, or as helping hands in the ED.

I learned to cross-train to our busy ER (only trauma center within 50 miles). I was able to work all I wanted
