Returning NurseRating: (votes: 0) I would like to use my experience as a multiple mom and nursing in my new career path. My triplets were born at 29 weeks so I have been there through the NICU phase. I think I may enjoy NICU nursing now or Maternal-Child nursing. I need some advice as to how to go about this. Should I start with a refresher course and try to get into a hospital in the nursery or NICU? Other factors to consider are I have 4 children to think about for after-school babysitting and activities so its' hard for me to commit to any long-term full time orientation or training. I think I may like home-health nursing to accomodate my schedule. I am so confused. Thanks for any input... Do you have an active nursing license? I would check with the BON in your state first to see if a referesher course is mandatory. Otherwise look for a job that is going to provide the orientation you need, something similar to a new grad since your experience is very limited. This would be very difficult to find unless you can find a way to commit to the orientation process. Orientation is an expensive propoposition for an employer and if you want a proper orientation, you're going to have to find a way to commit at least to the orientation they require. Many, nurses have nursing careers with young children and everyone seems to find something that works for them. Good luck! Comment: Just wanted to say hi and wish you well in your new path, what ever way you choose to go.Tweety always gives great adviceComment: Even if it isn't required in your state, a refresher course would be a good idea. It shows initiative and employers may be more willing to invest in your orientation. Good luck!
