in need of career adviceRating: (votes: 0) Welcome to our forums!I'm so sorry you're experiencing these things. Is it possible for you to get a mentor? If not, professional services exist that might be able to assist in the process of "career coaching." Are you seeking to change careers? More specifics are needed.Good luck to you! Comment: I would love a mentor! I have asked and was told I needed to contact EAP or mental health. How does one find a mentor.Comment: EAP would be an excellent resource if used maximally. I utilized EAP a little over 3 years ago, and will never forget the wonderful assistance I received.Comment: Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what's EAP?Comment: Quote from TeebySorry if this is a dumb question, but what's EAP?Comment: EAP is Employee Assistance Program, and go I did only to be told I was in the wrong place. They mainly provided assistance to recovering nurses/doctors/pharmacists/etc.Comment: It depends on the specfic EAP. The last hospital I worked at, the EAP was very comprehensive and did provide counseling on career-related problems. Since that didn't work out for you, I would suggest looking into local career counselors. Just do a google search for your area. Depending on the state in which you live, you may also find free assistance through a workforce development agency. If you went to a four-year university, they often offer career counseling services for alumni. I'm sorry that you are experiencing these things. I was also unsatisfied with my career and I feel that career counseling was very useful. Good luck!Comment: Are you willing to share the name of your career counselor? I hired a career counselor, paid him some money, only to find out what EXECUTIVE career counselor means. I think he had little to no knowledge of the nursing experience. I do think he has probably helped a lot of people in the corporate world. His advice was for people who were in the top echelon. I kept trying to bring him to the understanding that I am on the BOTTOM of the totempole--not the top.Comment: I live in Michigan. If you also live here, you can PM me and I will send you his name. The career counselor cannot know the lived experiences of all professions, but I understand what you are saying. They should be able to give you tips specific to your career and the problems that you are experiencing. Quote from dzd&cnfsdAre you willing to share the name of your career counselor?
