How do you become an RN with CST classes?

My boyfriend is going to school to become a Surg Tech. He's basically finished. He's just waiting to hear from the school who's supposed to be setting him up with an extern. I've been reading a couple of posts from CST's who say they've waited months to get an extern, and months after that (usually more than a year) trying to get hired. Most of them suggest trying to become an RN instead.
Does he have to start school all over again to become an RN, or has he already completed courses (to become a CST) that will go towards his nursing degree?

Any suggestions?
Best advice - have him check with some local schools that have an RN program and see what transfers.
It's hard to imagine that any specialty CST courses (specifically about being a CST) would transfer into a nursing program. However, if he has had any general education and (specifically) science courses through an accredited college/university, those would probably be helpful for him.trauma is right -- your best source of info would be any local nursing programs.
