Anxious and Depressed About Finding JobRating: (votes: 0) I am a new nurse, just got my license in 5/08 ![]() ![]() ![]() I am kinda in the same boat as you -- I could not get a job due to visa reasons, and had to wait for about a year.Anyways, if you have trouble getting a job (as I have), try to go directly to the nurse manager in the unit of the hospital you want to work in with your resume on hand. Remember to wear appropriate attire, too. I was able to get an interview and job in a week's time. Show the manager enthusiasm and your willingness to learn. Make sure you also show her that you have not forgotten your skills during the interview -- study up on the things that you've forgotten. Hope this helps. Good luck on landing that first job! Comment: I also noticed that you are from the Bay Area...which hospitals have you checked out? Try branching out if you can. Ask friends from your RN program if there are openings in their units. Sometimes HR does not get a whiff of new openings...not sure why.New grad programs are hard to get into this time,so if you don't get in, don't worry, you will get training if you're new anyway. Just keep on looking! There will be something out there for you! Some hospitals to check out: SF General Hospital, Seton Medical (with new grad program)...Comment: I'm trying for Kaiser SF's October opening and Seton Medical said check online by the end of this month for postings. I'm hoping I can get into some. I've had two very disappointing results already so I'm pretty bummed. Going to the nurse manager is a very good idea. I'm going to look up my preceptor and see if she can help me. Thanks for your advice!!!
