I'm an oldie but a goodie Nurse getting back into practiceRating: (votes: 0) My experience is in critical care and was a former CCRN. I realize that's old hat but I recently took the ACLS course hoping for some cardiac position. The other problem is I am a AD nurse. I think I must have been crazy to think I could re enter the practice. I believe they'd rather hire a grad nurse rather than an obsolite one. I was even told to take a 6 month Med-Surg position and maybe they would consider me a candidate. I think 6 mos on a med surg floor would do me in LOL I did do one yr of home health and even started the darn cardiac program they launched. I know my resume is excellent. I covered all my bases and worked on it forever. I am ever so disappointed. I am 64 yrs of age and have been in critical care for all of my practice. what a let down. ![]() ![]() Sounds like age discrimination to me. But, I guess you have no concrete proof. Why is it a problem that you are an AD nurse? Comment: Thanks for your reply. Well, if you don't have a BSN, dispite that fact that I've worked for years in Critical Care, CCRN and all that, It's just the plain fact. Getting into a specialty in some areas, can prove to be difficult. There are always med surg positions, but I truly don't want that either. Even a Home Care position, said that I'd have to work in Med surg for a period before they would ever consider me as a valid candidate. I did my ACLS just to have on my resume and it's not that important. I guess it's going to take some time. Hope you're not facing anything like this. I'll prevail. I always do. I'm like Cher and the cockroaches; they never die. Noreen
