Poor GPA - Smart to do LPN first??

I have a very low GPA (would you believe less than 2.0??) from 30 years ago because I attended more disco parties than classes Anyway, I want to be an RN now so I need to retake quite a few classes to lift my GPA.

I was thinking maybe it would be better if I do the LPN 1st (12 months at a tech school that does not care about old college credit), get stellar grades, and then try to get into the LPN/RN bridge program at the community college. Do you think the community college nursing program would look at me more favorable with great grades and a LPN license (and working in the field)?

If I go straight to the CC, I'll spend about 3 semester retaking and focusing on prereqs before I can even apply for admission to the RN program.

Thanks! Last edit by thinkingaboutnursing on Nov 21, '08
Have you checked with advising about having the grades removed from your transcript? Alot of schools will give you a fresh start after 10 years. It wouldn't hurt to ask. Good Luck!
