im a confused college student =

Hi everyone! i just registered to the site. Well basically ive been trying different areas in college. Just to see what i like. Im in accounting and i HATE it.so boring. Ive always been attracted to the medical field since i was young ( btw im a male =] ), but i never decided to go into anything medical because i just didnt have the grades in HS =[. Now for a couple of months i have really been thinking about becoming a RN. I really want to work in the ER or something like that ( i LOVE hospitals lol, i was so excited when i broke my ankle last year haha). But would i require a BSN? to work in the ER? Im 19 years old and im at a community college here in maryland. There is a program to get an associates, but i dont think thats enough to get into the ER is it? so i was thinking of getting my pre reqs ( most of which i already have done. Ok now for the part im confused about. ( sorry for the long post guys!) Do i NEED to get an associates to get the BSN? like get the ADN and then go back to a nursing school for a BSN. or can i transfer straight from the comm.college into a nursing school and into the BSN?
Hey Red! Welcome aboard.I would strongly advise you to pursue your BSN for a couple of reasonsFirst of all, you're very young yet so you certainly have the time and the job situation for new grads is pretty tight right now in many areas of the country. It will undoubtedly be easier to find that first job 3 or 4 years from now. Secondly, it is just so much harder to try to 'double back' on your education for that BSN after you have already started to work. Having to do the whole pre-req & application thing all over again. It's a hassle. You will want a BSN because it will open up doors for you that may be closed with an ADN - mgt jobs, specialty training, etc. That being said -- take your pre-reqs in a community college! Usually smaller classes & much less expensive. Be sure to talk with the nursing schools you're interested in to make sure that the courses will transfer.BTW, there's really no need to point out the fact that you're male -- we don't discriminate!
