I made up my mind to become a Nurse.

Hello,

Glad I found this website and look forward to gaining some valuable
information and maybe a few friends here as well.

I'm a 35 year old male who wishes to change careers and become a
RN nurse. Since this is all new to me I looked at Technical colleges first
and found that was not the right path for me.

Now I am looking into several community colleges in Georgia. It appears
the average tuition is around $2,300 a quarter.

Can someone here give me an idea of how long it will take to become a
RN? I know I need 3 months for my core math, biology, chemistry classes..
but after those are completed is it fair to say 6 quarters?

I would like to find a program in which I can start right away. I noticed
many places seemed to have a waiting list. Can I get some tips on
getting through school faster?

Thanks for your help everyone.

The nursing program at my school is 2 years long. The fast-track nursing program is a year long. It took me a year to complete Bio, A&P 1 and 2, a computer class, and Micro as well as 2 math classes. I work full-time, so I could only take 2 classes at a time.
Comment:
The local ADN program takes ~2.5 years after you've finished all your prereqs. If you have a prior Bachelors degree, you might consider an accelerated ADN or BSN program - those take 12-18 months.
