Re-entering longterm care after a long absence

I was out of geriatric nursing for eight years, but before that I worked in longterm care for many years. I am looking for an online review course that I can take to go over things like new meds, insulin and heparin administration, and just basic things that I have been away from. I feel that I can adapt again pretty quickly, but I want to make sure I can "relearn" important procedures and safety guidelines in order to be a safe and effective practitioner. That is my first and foremost concern. I live in a college town with many nursing programs but have been unable to find any "classroom" refresher courses, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of any online courses that I can take. I'm sure there are tons of resources but I haven't been able to locate any. Also, I'm thinking of calling my state board of nursing--maybe they will have some information or helpful advice.

I'm not sure if your looking for a geriatics or general refresher. I just finished a 3 part series on Meds and the Elderly that was very good thru RN.com Their CE's are generally accepted by most states and if you get a years subscription it's worth it!
That sounds good. I'll have to check it out. I guess since I have not really done much bedside for a few years I should probably do both geriatric and general. My last specialty was Nursing Informatics but I left that job to go back to school fulltime for my Master's in Information Technology and in the meantime, the recession arrived and there went the jobs. And since I really liiked geriatrics when I did it for many years in my past life I thought I would go back to it.Well, thanks, and I will check out RN.com.
