Is BSN and ASN the same thing????Rating: (votes: 0) An ASN is an Associate of Science in Nursing while a BSN is a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. An associates is generally a 2 year degree, although for nursing it can take longer because of the pre-reqs. The degree after the associates is a bachelor's degree which is generally a 4 year degree. The nursing portion of the degree may be close in length, or a few classes more than an associates, but you often have to take other upper division general education requirements for your bachelor's. There are a lot of bridge programs now for nurse to go from an associates to bachelors and associates to master's. You might want to check in your area to see if there is a higher demand for nurses that have a bachelor's. Generally the higher the degree, the more time and money you will invest. Good luck Comment: Also, the pay for a new nurse may not be different whether you have a bachelor's or associate's. But if there is a specialty or hospital you like, bachelor's may be necessary to advance, or help you be more competitive
