Women's Health NP vs. Certified Nurse Midwife

Hello all.

Anyone have any suggestions/comments in reference to pursuing a Women's Health NP or Nurse Midwife Certification? i.e. job outlook, etc.

The job outlook for both of them is very good, exp. if health care "reform" if that is what that bill is....passes. The difference is if you want an office based practice, or a hospital based practice. Nurse-midwives take call and work nights and weekends. Some people (like me) left midwifery due to the lifestyle demands, though I love being with women during birth. Find people in your area who are doing the job and shadow them for a day. See what you like and do not like about the CULTURE and CONTEXT of their practices. Talk to them, attend local chapter meetings and determine what fits for you. Most CNMs are very equipped to do an office only practice....NP's cannot usually go the other way. Good luck!

Pretty sure I will be going the NP route...
