I want to be a Nurse

Hi everyone. I've been thinking about becoming a nurse for quite some time and finally decided - to do it!
This winter I will begin taking my prerequisites to attend the Nursing Program at WSU. I was advised by my counselor that the waiting list for the program is 12-18 months. For the mean while, I should get my associates degree to be an RN. Then get my BSN once I get accepted for the Nursing Program.

Did anyone here had to do this? If so, can you tell me how it went for you? Did you have any complications to get into the Nursing Program? What did you do to overcome any obstacles ,if any? Are there any books that you guys recommend to read before starting the NP?
